This one-hour training offers counselors and Play Therapists an engaging introduction to the essentials of Child-Centered Play Therapy. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of how to create a supportive, non-directive space that respects each child’s unique expression. Through an exploration of practical techniques and guidance on thoughtful selection of play materials, this training helps attendees foster a safe, accepting environments where children feel empowered to explore and express themselves within the therapeutic setting.

Learning Objectives:
Define the fundamental principles of child-centered play therapy, emphasizing the therapist’s role as a supportive, non-directive presence that respects the child’s autonomy.
Identify two key techniques in child-centered play therapy, such as reflective listening and non-judgmental observation, that help create a safe and accepting environment.
Outline essential considerations for selecting play materials that encourage open expression and align with child-centered play therapy principles.

Upon completion of the 1-hour training, participants will receive 1 Contact CE credits.

Participants must sign-in and sign-out and complete the evaluation to receive the CE credits.
Requirements to attend:
- To enroll in this program, participants must be either licensed mental health professionals or currently enrolled in a graduate program in the mental health field.
- It is strongly suggested that attendees have completed a graduate-level introductory course in play therapy, or a similar course, as well as a graduate-level course in human development or its equivalent.
- Additionally, prior experience working with this specific client population is encouraged for those intending to apply this material.
- Please note, play therapy credit cannot be granted to individuals who are not mental health professionals.
