Our Approach to Therapy at Minds in Action Counseling
Evidence-based, personalized, and built around what actually produces lasting change — not just temporary relief
A lot of therapy practices describe themselves the same way. Compassionate. Client-centered. Evidence-based. These things matter, but they do not tell you much about what actually happens in the room, or on the screen, or what changes as a result of the work.
At Minds in Action Counseling, our approach is grounded in a specific and deliberate philosophy: that effective therapy requires both clinical precision and genuine human attunement. It is not enough to be warm. It is not enough to be skilled. The best outcomes happen when both are present simultaneously, delivered within a structure that is clear enough to produce measurable progress and flexible enough to meet each person where they actually are.
We serve individuals, couples, children, teens, and families in Plano, Fort Worth, and throughout Texas via telehealth. Every service we offer is delivered within this same foundational framework.
What We Believe About Change
People grow when they feel genuinely safe.
Safety in therapy is not simply the absence of judgment. It is the active presence of a relationship in which honesty feels possible and mistakes are not treated as failures. We invest significantly in building the kind of therapeutic relationship that makes real disclosure, and therefore real change, possible.
Insight alone is not enough.
Understanding why you do something is a starting point, not a destination. Effective therapy moves from insight to skill, from awareness to action, and from the therapy room into your actual daily life. Every approach we use is selected because it produces that movement.
The body is part of the process.
Stress, trauma, anxiety, and depression are not only cognitive experiences. They live in the nervous system, in behavioral patterns, and in relational dynamics that predate conscious memory. Our most effective treatment integrates the body, the mind, and the relational context rather than addressing only one layer.
Specificity outperforms generality.
Generic therapy advice produces generic results. We tailor every treatment plan to the individual’s specific history, presenting concerns, goals, and pace. Two people presenting with the same diagnosis may receive meaningfully different approaches because their underlying patterns and needs are different.
Evidence-Based Approaches We Draw On
Our therapists are trained in and draw from the following evidence-based modalities, selected and integrated based on each individual client’s needs:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
One of the most extensively researched treatments in psychotherapy, CBT addresses the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behavior. It is practical, structured, and produces measurable improvement across a wide range of presentations including anxiety, depression, perfectionism, and insomnia.
EMDR — Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
An evidence-based trauma treatment recognized by the American Psychological Association, the World Health Organization, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. EMDR works by facilitating the brain’s natural processing of distressing stored memories, reducing their emotional charge and behavioral impact. Available in person and via telehealth.
Gottman Method Couples Therapy
Developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman following decades of research on relationship dynamics, this method provides couples with a precise framework for understanding what is driving conflict and disconnection, and a structured path for building genuine repair. Maribel Faucett is a Gottman Certified Therapist — one of a relatively small number in the state of Texas.
Play Therapy and Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT)
Developmentally appropriate approaches for children and families that use play as the primary therapeutic language. Play therapy is delivered by our Registered Play Therapists, and CPRT trains parents to become the therapeutic agents of change within their own relationship with their child.
CBT for Insomnia (CBTi)
The first-line recommended treatment for chronic insomnia, endorsed by the American College of Physicians. CBTi addresses the cognitive and behavioral patterns that perpetuate insomnia without medication, producing improvements that persist and often continue to improve after treatment ends.
Biofeedback and HRV Training
A data-informed approach to nervous system regulation that uses real-time physiological feedback to train the autonomic nervous system toward greater resilience, lower stress reactivity, and improved emotional regulation.
Biosound Therapy
An integrative modality combining binaural beats, resonant vibration, guided meditation, and HRV biofeedback. Available exclusively through our Plano and Fort Worth offices, where we are DFW’s first Biosound Therapy provider.
Prepare and Enrich — Premarital Counseling
A scientifically validated assessment and counseling framework used with over five million couples. Delivered by our Prepare and Enrich certified therapist, Veronica Petty, LPC.
Trauma-Informed Care
All of our clinical work is conducted within a trauma-informed framework, meaning we recognize the pervasive impact of trauma and approach all clinical decisions with attention to safety, trustworthiness, and client empowerment.
How We Actually Work
We assess before we prescribe.
Every client relationship begins with a thorough assessment of your history, presenting concerns, goals, and context. We do not apply a default approach to every client. We build a treatment plan from what we learn about you specifically.
We set clear goals and track progress.
Therapy without direction is expensive conversation. We establish specific, measurable goals at the outset and track movement toward them across sessions. The approach is adjusted based on what is working and what is not.
We involve you in the process.
You are not a passive recipient of treatment. You are a collaborative partner in it. We explain what we are doing and why, invite your feedback, and adjust based on your experience of the work.
We work across the lifespan.
Our team serves children as young as three, adolescents, adults across all life stages, couples, and families. This breadth is intentional. It means we can support individuals and families comprehensively rather than referring out for every developmental stage.
We serve a culturally diverse community.
Our team includes clinicians who provide therapy in English, Spanish, and Mandarin. We serve first-generation and multicultural clients with genuine cultural competence, treating cultural context as integral to the clinical work rather than peripheral to it.
The Practice Behind the Approach
Minds in Action Counseling was founded on the conviction that mental health care should be both clinically rigorous and genuinely human. We are a practice of licensed professional counselors and licensed professional counselor associates supervised by our practice owner, Maribel Faucett, MEd, LPC-S, RPT-S, EMDR Certified, Gottman Certified Therapist.
Our team holds specializations that are relatively uncommon in private practice: Registered Play Therapists, EMDR Certified clinicians, a Gottman Certified Therapist, CBTi certified therapists, a Perinatal Mental Health Certified clinician, a CPRT specialist with a doctoral degree, and a biofeedback certified therapist. The depth and breadth of specialization across our team is what allows us to treat the full complexity of what clients bring.
We practice from two physical locations, Plano and Fort Worth, with telehealth available to clients throughout Texas.

From the Practice Owner
I started Minds in Action Counseling because I believed there was a better way to deliver mental health care in this community. Not just competent care, but genuinely precise and deeply human care. The team we have built reflects that belief. Each person we have brought on brings specialized training, genuine investment, and the kind of clinical maturity that produces real and lasting change in the people they work with. I am proud of this practice. I am proud of what our clients are able to accomplish here.
