Life Can Get So Heavy — It's Okay to Put It Down for a Moment

You Know What to Do. Doing It Is the Problem

Procrastination. Overwhelm. A to-do list you have rewritten three times and still have not started. If you have spent years being told to just try harder, get more organized, or use more willpower, and none of it has actually stuck, the problem was never your effort. It was that the strategies you were handed were built for a brain that does not work the way yours does. Sara Aguilar works with adults and young adults, including working professionals and college students, who are ready to understand how their ADHD brain actually operates and build tools that hold up in real life, not just in a planner that gets abandoned by week three.

How I Help

ADHD-Focused Therapy & Executive Functioning: I completed specialized training focused on ADHD, executive functioning, and strength-based support, and I bring that lens into every session. Together, we work on the mechanics of daily functioning: getting started on tasks, following through, managing time you cannot quite feel passing, and building systems that fit your actual brain instead of someone else's idea of what organized is supposed to look like.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): ADHD rarely travels alone. Years of missed deadlines, forgotten commitments, and being told to just focus tend to leave behind real anxiety, shame, and a harsh inner critic. I use CBT to work directly with those thought patterns, helping you separate what actually happened from the story you have been telling yourself about what it means about you.

A Clinical Foundation Beyond ADHD: My background also includes training in grief-focused therapy and CBT for Insomnia (CBTi), which means I understand how ADHD intersects with sleep, loss, and the emotional weight that can come with either. I bring that fuller clinical picture into our work together rather than treating executive functioning as separate from the rest of your life.

Areas of Focus

  • Insomnia & sleep difficulties (CBTi)
  • Trauma & stress
  • Self-esteem & personal development
  • Women’s issues & relationship challenges

Education & Experience

I hold a Master of Education and am a Licensed Professional Counselor. My clinical training includes grief-focused therapy and CBT for Insomnia (CBTi), and I have completed additional specialized training in ADHD, covering executive functioning, focus strategies, time management, emotional regulation, and strength-based approaches for the ADHD brain. I work with adults and young adults, including college students and working professionals, and I provide sessions in English and Spanish.

A Little About Me

I have a deep love for reading — romance, fantasy, and everything in between. I believe stories help us understand each other. I’m also a music lover and a proud cat mom to Martin, my rescued fur baby. He enjoys coming on camera and sitting in in our sessions. When I’m not in the therapy room, I’m probably lost in a good book or knitting/crocheting new pieces for my family and friends to wear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Sara offer therapy in Spanish?

Yes — Sara is bilingual in English and Spanish and offers therapy in both languages.

What is CBT for Insomnia (CBTi)?

CBTi is a structured, evidence-based therapy for chronic insomnia that addresses the thoughts and behaviors disrupting sleep — often more effective than medication in the long run. These structured sessions help you find your ideal amount of sleep to help you take on your day.
